PLAI-WVRLC held the Regional Conference and Librarians’ Summit entitled “The Librarian as the Information Specialist: Bridging Gaps, Building Capacities” last September 8-9, 2017 at West Visayas State University Research Building, Iloilo City. The seminar-workshop aimed to build capacities of librarians/paraprofessional librarians/LIS students to become more competent information professionals/specialists.
There were 220 participants representing the provinces of Iloilo, Guimaras, Aklan, Antique and Capiz. The program opened with a welcome remark from Dr. Luis A. Abioda, WVSU Vice President for Academic Affairs. Resource speakers Hon. Lourdes David, Professional Regulatory Board for Librarians, Mr. Martin Julius Perez of Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Stephen Alayon of Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, and Mr. Christian George Acevedo, the PLAI-WVRLC Chairperson, engaged the passionate participants in this two-day event.
